These web pages present an overview of the research activity being conducted at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research by Howard Browman and Anne Berit Skiftesvik, and our students, Post-Doctoral Associates, Research Associates, and Collaborators. We also provide some general information on the early life stages of marine fish and shellfish, and links to other web pages that might be useful to those interested in such matters.

June 2013: Howard Browman and Jan Pechenik will lead a scientific writing/publishing workshop at the Institute of Marine Research.
May 2013: The Arctic Ocean Acidification Conference was held 6-8 May in Bergen, Norway. Howard Browman was a member of the conference's Scientific Committee and presented an overview of the biological effects of ocean acidification. A short documentary film can be viewed HERE. The conference was streamed live and the talks were recorded: all of the talks presented at the conference can be viewed HERE.
March 2013: Caroline Durif et al. have published an article in PLoS ONE about the sensory basis for orientation and migration in the European eel. The article is attracting alot of attention: at 30 March 2013 it had already been downloaded 850 times (since appearing online on 15 March). March 2013: Howard Browman has been appointed PLoS ONE's Section Editor for Marine Ecology. With >1500 submissions per year in marine science (and growing rapidly), PLoS ONE is now the largest journal outlet for articles on this topic, exceeding MEPS and all other narrower-topic journals in this subject area by a wide margin. This appointment complements Howard's role as Editor-in-Chief of the ICES Journal of Marine Science.
January 2013: Howard Browman has been appointed to the International Advisory Board of the Committee on Publication Ethics. This appointment complements Howard's role on the Editorial Policy Committee of the Council of Science Editors and his roles on the Publications Oversight Committees of the American Fisheries Society, the Association for the Advancement of the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography and the International Council for the Exploration of the Seas.
