Kreisel tanks are circular acrylic tanks with no corners, they make especially good homes for delicate creatures that might injure themselves in a tank with corners. This unusual tank design is used at public aquaria to culture and display jellyfish. A Kreisels design is one in which there are uniquely designed inlets and outlets for the water, as opposed to a single inlet and outlet for water. Water flow is introduce in a method called laminar flow. This creates a gentle flow that keeps the organisms in suspension. This streamline flow also helps to separate debris in a manner as to not draw the inhabitants into the filter system.
"Kreisel" means "child's spinning top" in German!
